No one quite knows who named this charming house the "Ethan Allen Cottage" now the home of the Village library.
The huge fireplace, beamed ceiling and wide floor boards place its construction about 1739. That was the year Ethan Allen was born in Litchfield. Legend persists he was born in this cottage. It was later moved to Roxbury, then to Southbury, and to its present site in 1924 by the Ballantine family. Victor Borge purchased the land in 1953 and used the cottage as a guest house. In 1967 the Paparazzo Tradition Corporation converted it into a library for Villagers. |
