SOS - HVCC Help Line

The Board of Directors has been asked to clarify club policy regarding services involving computer problems. The names posted on page 5 are volunteers who will try to walk you through a computer problem that you may be experiencing. If that does not resolve the glitch, it is suggested that you bring the specifics of your problem to one of our open houses (Th 1-3PM and Fr 10:30-12:30). Members are encouraged to offer volunteer assistance when they are able. If none of this fixes the problem, your only recourse is to seek professional help. It is not the Club's policy to recommend professional computer technicians.

SURVEY 2000

The Education Committee wishes to thank the many of you who responded to our questionnaire. The projected deadline for responses was August 31st but we will continue to accept additional ones for a few more days while we are compiling the results.

MAC HINTS

Help to stamp out repetitive strain injuries by avoiding the mouse whenever possible--to save time, too! Command-Left Arrow is the same as the "Back" button, Command-Right Arrow does the same as the "Forward" button, and Command-R will Refresh. These three commands will take you most places you want to go. Combine them with the Tab key, which moves you around any input boxes on the Web page (such as forms or Search boxes). Option-Tab moves you through all elements, including links. When you get to the link you want, hit Return.

Can't decide on just one picture to use as your desktop background? Create an entire folder of images and then drag the whole folder to the Desktop picture window in the Appearance control panel. Your wallpaper will change every time you reboot.

Toolbar Favorites

Got more than the six or seven Toolbar Favorites that fit across the screen? No problem. First minimize the number you can get on the bar by renaming them with short one-word tags such as "Bank," "News," and so on. Open the Favorites window by hitting Command-2. Select a name you want to change by clicking it and moving the cursor just a bit.
If you still have too many, create folders for them by choosing Favorites from the Windowsmenu, then choosing Organize Favorites/New Folder in the Favorites menu. Drag these folders into the Toolbar Favorites folder, and they will appear on the Toolbar.
