computers had problems. The desktop hung up frequently and the laptop got a virus which made it impossible to load the operating system. Needless to say, I had to format the hard drives on each computer and start from scratch. I also want to tell you that I had the data and pictures from both computers saved on CD-RWs so nothing was lost other than the address books. I did print the address book on paper prior to any crashes. I had visions of typing the address book in both computers and decided there had to be a way to transfer them. Both computers are networked so that I can exchange files back and forth. Here is what I did:

1.I did a Find on *.wab. In most computers it is located in C\:windows\application data\microsoft\address book.

2.I then imported it to the other computer, which was a breeze.

3.The crowning achievement for me (you all probably have done this) was saving the file to a floppy. What I did was right click on the file (in my case, Walter A Fair), selected Copy, then through Windows Explorer right clicked on 3 ½ Floppy A and selected Paste.

4.When you want to copy it back into Outlook Express, open the Address Book, select Import from the drop down menu. Next select the 3 ½ Floppy Disk, highlight the name of the file and click OK.

I know this may sound stupid but I've never been able to do this before because I went at it in the logical way of trying to save the address book through the address book window. Many people have asked me how to do this and I've told them I had no idea but when I found out, I'd let them know. Well I found out! You may want to pass it along (in your own words) to club members via The Soundboard. So here by way of Walter Fair is the solution to saving the address book in Outlook Express.
Do you want to be removed from telemarketing lists? Go to the CT. Department of Consumer Protection 1-800-842-2649 or go to:     www.state.ct.us/dcp It should work.

Joan Nichols clued me in to a site which will allow you to read your e-mail offline. I have downloaded it and am happy with it and it is free. It will flash across your monitor as it updates your e-mail but, so far, it has not caused me any problems. The site is:
www.eprompter.com If you are not satisfied with its performance, it provides an uninstall function. It does not work if WTCO is your ISP.

A Scientist's New Favorites

Steven Pinker, Cognitive Neuroscientist at MIT likes the following sites: artsandlettersdaily.com     scitechdaily.com    Both sites are a great way to get a good distillation of daily articles.

google.com (a big favorite of mine)  If you have a dim memory for some line of text, you can type it in and it will take you right to the source.

abe.com    Advanced Book Exchange is a great way to get out-of-print books. It is a network of used booksellers around the country.

Museums

These sites all start with www.

moma.org tate.org.uk artic.edu metmuseum.org

guggenheim.org ammi.org whitney.org louvre.fr

walkerart.org ps1.org getty.edu/museum

tretyakov.ru nmaa.si.edu hermitagemuseum.org

nmwh.org     artmuseums.harvard.edu/fogg/index/html

There is a growing trend to eliminate the www. so try it without but if you get the message, “This page cannot be displayed,” you will need to use it.
