Boolean Logic to Search on the Web

  George Boole was a 19th century British mathematician who developed a calculus of symbolic logic. From his work, a system of boolean logic is derived that is used for information retrieval on the Internet. Boolean operations are very powerful in Web searches, linking topics in order to expand or limit a search. The searcher uses the operators AND, OR, NOT and NEAR.
  AND links two terms and narrows a search. If you search for "Steroids and Sports," only articles containing both terms will be retrieved.
  OR links two terms and expands a search. If you search for "Cars or Autos," articles in which either term appears will be retrieved.
  NOT narrows a search by excluding articles containing the second search term. If you search for "Virus not AIDS," all articles in which "Virus" appears will be retrieved but not those containing the word "AIDS." In other words, if you are searching for "lions," you will get a complete list of all pages that mention the word lions. If you specify "lions and tigers," you will get a list of all pages that mention both the words lions and tigers, but no pages that mention only lions or only tigers, will be produced. Should you specify "lions not tigers" you will get a complete list of all pages that mention the word lions, but all pages that also mention tigers will be deleted.
  If you wish to use symbols:

& or + = AND; | = OR; ! or - = NOT;

~ = NEAR and ( ) = ""

Happy Searching!!!

The difference between a prejudice and a conviction is that you can explain a conviction without getting angry.

WEBSITES

Surf Ad-Free

  Banner ads pay the bills on the Web, but the animated, jumping beasts can get out of hand. If you'd like to surf in silence, consider downloading an ad blocker that will work with Internet Explorer 5. The AdSubtract SE tool, free for personal use, can stop ads from appearing as you browse and may also speed surfing since banners consume valuable bandwidth - especially on slow modem connections. You can find the utility at: www.adsubtract.com. Try it! I think it might work for other browsers as well.

Translation Service (Incredible Site)

  You type your letter or message in English and then pick one of the languages available and, presto, it is translated. Or it works vice versa if you type in a foreign language it reverses into English. I tried it in Norwegian and it really does work. www.freetranslation.com

Turn E-mail into Snail mail

Transform your E-mail for the price of a 99-cent "stamp." You compose a letter, pay with your credit card, and send. The site is secure. Your message is then printed out and popped into the mail. www.letterpost.com
