GENERAL MEMBERSHIPMONTHLY MEETINGHeritage Hall WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14, 2002 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Program: "POWERPOINT" By Bob Bowolick xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx PRESIDENT'S CORNERDues: The Board of Directors have recently reviewed the current financial state of the club and have decided to enact a reduction in dues. Beginning on July 1, 2002 the dues will be reduced by $5.00 per year to $20.00 per year/per person.. The family dues will remain the same which will effectively establish dues to be $20.00 per year for all members. The board is pleased to be able to take this action at this time. Member support has been appreciated over the years and we all look forward to the continued growth of the club. Web Site: The graphics and web SIG group has recently updated and/or added web pages to the club web site. Updated are the Tenpins Bowling League, The Women's Fireside Club, The Men's Club, and The Clubs and Activities pages. New pages added are The Stable Studio and The Heritage Village Ambulance Association. These pages can be accessed by entering the Clubs in the Village page and selecting your choice. Mac Club: The Mac SIG Group has decided to leave the club and form their own organization to be known as the Mac Club. We wish to inform our members that we are sharing "The Web" with the Mac Club. The Mac Club members have been allocated meeting time. All residents of the village are welcome during open house from 1 - 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We trust this arrangement will assist the Mac Club in it's endeavors. Club Management: The board is currently preparing a pool of members who may wish to volunteer for positions of officers, board members, instructors, committee chairpersons, committee members, and helpers. Anyone interested in assisting in the management of the club please contact Jean Van Loon. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx CLASSIC MOVIES Reel Classics claims to be the Internet's most comprehensive site dedicated exclusively to Classic Movies. Comprising over 1600 pages and almost 2 gigabytes of content (with much more on the way), it may well be the biggest too. Look around this site for some amazing information, pictures, and stories. Reel Classics is constantly being revised and updated. This site also provides the addresses of the stars for fans and possible autograph hunters. This personal web site belongs to a couple of Mid-westerners who own three cats. They have much to offer including topics or links for adoption, nutrition, humor, general information, names, news, organizations, shelters, veterinary information and more. There are pictures of themselves and their three cats. Very informative and worth a surf. Here's a personal web site with dog info and links to "About Dogs", "Dog Training", "For Kids", "Health and Nutrition", "Miscellaneous" (including lodging that accepts pets), and "Publications". http://www.angelfire.com/va2/tributetodogs/links.htm xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx EMAIL BOUNCE Email Bounce means that either the email you sent cannot be delivered to the intended recipient or your own mail cannot be delivered to you. The i845E chipset will populate the high and the middle ends of the Pentium 4 market in fast systems such as the Dell Dimension 4500 and the Falcon Northwest Mach V. The i845G will serve the midrange segments of the market in consumer systems such as the Compaq Presario 6000T, the Dell Dimension 4500S, and the Gateway 500SE. Lastly, the i845GL chipset will be used mainly in budget and corporate desktops where performance is a lower priority. For more information about the capabilities of the different chipsets and their relative performance, read the explanations at the CNET web site. CHOOSING THE RIGHT CHIP According to - performance testing: You'll get the best bang for your buck with i845E or i845G-based systems using one of the new Pentium 4 (at the high end) or Celeron (at the low end) chips. If you must get integrated graphics, make sure you choose an i845G-based system with an AGP slot (i845GL systems really belong in a corporate, never-to-be-upgraded world), and always get at least 256MB of memory to compensate for what's stolen by the graphics subsystem. Check out our reviews of i845-based systems below to see how the chips fall. That means that although you can't tell, your operating system is storing all the data from that file as separate packages of information, distributed on different parts of the disk. Although fragmentation does not lose the information contained in the file, it does eventually slow down access to the file itself, because the Operating System (OS) must search the whole disk to create the sum of the file's parts. Defragmentation collects all those parts into one stream of data again, speeding up your system. MS Windows suggests maintaining your computer by regularly scheduling a defrag. Take a File and Disk Maintenance Class at The Web to learn all about it. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx SHAKESPEARE and MORE For the complete works of Shakespeare: http://www.ipl.org/div/shakespeare/shakespeare.html OR offering links to 20,000 books, this site appears to have it all http://www.ipl.org/ Online reading of books is available in various choices of font size. Click on the link in the left column "Now Offering Links To Over 20,000 Books" and search by title, author, or subject. Listings are available for the newest additions. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ROADSIDE AMERICA. Take a look at http://www.roadsideamerica.com for your "Online Guide to Offbeat Tourist Attractions." THE DONUT HOLE, LA PUENTE, CAYou can actually drive through its brown double-dunker portal. It's also a darling of film location scouts. The Donut Hole was built in 1968, the two hollow ends fashioned from fiberglass and spanning 26 feet. One of a chain of five doughnut shops, this is the one that has survived. Plunked down in a typical store-jammed suburbia, the Hole's digestive system is taxed as a stop-and-go stream of cars are gulped down and unceremoniously pooted out. The fresh-baked choices are arrayed within, trayed along interior windows. We recommend buying an assortment bag of orange topped, plain and glazed. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Why didn't Noah swat thosetwo mosquitoes ? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx CONGRATULATIONS TO:The winner of the drawing at the July monthly meeting---Margaret Wigiser. The prize was a $25.00 gift cert. for Staples. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx INTERNET EXPLORER RIGHT-CLICKS: Anywhere on a web page to access the following: * Move Back Over a link to access the following: * Open NETSCAPE RIGHT-CLICKS: Anywhere on a web page to access the following: *Move Back On a link to access the following: * Open New Window xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Why are there flotation devices in the seats of planes instead of parachutes? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx S.O.S. - HVCC Help Line: Ken Pelletier 264-2310 Bob Greene 264-9747 Several members have volunteered to assist in the help duties and are available between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. They have specified the particular areas in which they are experienced. Give them an opportunity to assist you with your problems.
All help personnel are volunteers who will try to walk you through a computer problem that you may be experiencing. If that does not resolve the problem, it is suggested that you bring the specifics of your problem to our Open House (Tues. & Thur., 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.). Members are encouraged to offer volunteer assistance when they are able. If none of these suggestions fixes the problem, your only recourse is to seek professional help. It is not the Club's policy to recommend professional computer technicians. Usually the best technical help will come from the manufacturer of your computer and you may even be under a warranty program. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Send computer related suggestions or articles for the Soundboard to scottie2@att.net or theweb@snet.net xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx A MOVING EXPERIENCE.
