Skip the Trays
The trays in the back of the seat in front are less than satisfactory. Grab the pillow offered by the flight attendant and use it to support your laptop.

Skip the Overhead Bin
Put your laptop under the seat in front of you when not in use. No chance, then of it falling 5 feet to the deck or hitting someone on the head or being damaged by someone else's careless handling of baggage in the bin.

Follow Instructions
If the pilot is happier with the device turned off at take-off and landing, comply.

QuickTime's Advance Controls
You can do a lot more with The QuickTime Player than start and stop a movie or audio file. See that teeny button on the right with four dots on it? Click it and you'll get a drop-down panel with bass, treble, and balance controls, as well as fast forward, reverse, track skip and begin and end buttons.

Send Hyperlinks in E-Mail
When you find a great online area that you want to share with a friend, try sending them a hyperlink in e-mail.

  • Go to the area you would like to share
  • Bring up a blank e-mail by clicking the Compose/Write icon in the toolbarDrag the heart icon from the upper right corner of the area into the Message section of the e-mail window. A blue hyperlink appears in your e-mail message
  • Address it, add a subject and your personal note and it's ready to send

The reference to the heart icon leads me to believe this is an AOL tip but perhaps it works with other e-mail providers as well. Try it.

Remove Items from the Task Bar

Quick Launch Section
Right click the icon on the Quick Launch area and select Delete. Remember, it won't remove the application, just the icon from the Task Bar. To remove icons from the Task Bar tray, right click on the icon and read the menu that appears for further instructions.

Yellow Speaker - Do you need it?
To hide the yellow speaker, right click the speaker icon and select Adjust Audio Properties. On the Audio tab of the Audio Properties dialog box, deselect Show Volume Control On The Taskbar and then click OK. Should you want it back, open the Control Panel, double click Multimedia, select the option you just deselected (on the Audio tab) and click OK.
