Survey 2000

The Board of Directors directed the Education Committee to prepare a survey to address and assess the computing needs of the members of the Computer Club. Harry Fenson prepared and presented a form which was reviewed and edited and which was presented to and accepted by the Board. The Survey 2000 is included in this August 2000 issue of The Soundboard with the urgent request that you complete the form and return it by August 31st. If there are two members in the household, please xerox the form so each member can express their wishes and opinions. When you have completed the form, please drop it in the mailbox in the Activities Building reserved for the Computer Club. If it is more convenient for you to mail the form; fold it in half, seal with a piece of scotch tape (the USPS does not like staples), place a stamp on the side with the address and send by USPS (snail mail).
With club membership at 400+, we expect this survey, when collated, will enable the Board to provide a greater range and variety of services. It means, of course, that we can only expand our computing horizons if we can muster a corps of volunteers to make it happen.

Getting the Most Out of a Computer Course

Have you been thinking about taking a course to learn how to use a computer, or how to use it better and more effectively? Here are some hints on how to get a lot more benefit from the course, benefits that will help you learn more quickly and remember things longer.

First of all, have in mind what you want to do with it. Come equipped with the material you want to deal with whether learning Excel, Word or PowerPoint. Plan when and where you will use what you have learned and set aside time to practice the new stuff. It is important to practice and apply what you are learning. Practicing in between lessons makes all the difference in the world. Keeping in practice after the course will keep your skills up. A really helpful way to maximize your benefit is to take the class with a friend. It is always more fun when you have someone to share the experience with.
